Life Ain't All HaHa HeHe!!

"Uncertainty and mystery are energies of life. Don't let them scare you unduly, for they keep boredom at bay and spark creativity."

When I read this quote for the first time my immediate reaction was to smirk and say Right!!!, atleast to the Uncertainty portion. But then I got thinking. Not definitely for chronic worriers, but the quote has some truth in it. The great thing about life and what keeps it infinitely exciting, is inspite of you trying to plan and predict, you will have absolutely no clue what's in store until you actually live it. We may live under a false sense of safety and security, thinking we have planned and envisioned carefully, that the chances of life springing you sudden suprises is kept to a bare minimum.

However, most often this is not the case. Events, people, places all have the possibility to become curve balls thrown at you, when you least expect. But the question is how much excitement can one take? Even though I am all for adventure sports and exciting things, there are times when you rather sit back and lead a simple life that hardly deviates from the ordinary. It may be perhaps there is only so much excitement you can handle and as you grow older, you crave for stability rather than constant chaos.

I for one love to travel. I have always thought it is one of life's simplest pleasures. To see new places, understand new cultures, meet new faces, get a souvenir or two. But then when life becomes a constant commute, does it still hold the same excitement? And if there is a good measure of uncertainty thrown into the mix as well, although like the quote says, boredom may be kept at bay, but your sanity too? I doubt. :)

I guess a lot depends on the way you handle it. If you think wherever the road takes you, whatever happens, however things turn out, you will cooly take it all in your stride, and nothing could ever be so bad that you can't accept or adjust, then I think uncertainty and mysteries can certainly spice up your life. A small dose of both is definitely welcome.

Ultimately, what really makes the difference is, accepting there will be surprises, good, bad and the ugly, knowing you can handle it, and doing so gracefully, and telling yourself, whatever happens, it surely must be for the good.

Beautiful post!!! There is so much truth in what you say. You do write some deep stuff girl and make sense at the same time. Won't spoil this further with my comments, but I hope that God gives all of us the grace and strength to handle the troughs and crests in our life voyage ...and keep afloat

ha, life throws up so many surprises, some of them pleasant and of course to even it out, the rest unpleasant. I think we should always hope for the former and at the same time, be prepared for the latter.

Depends on how we're wired, right? Most people (me included) can't handle more than just a little change. I think it's more bravado than anything else to think "all change is good", and while changing situations are indeed motivational, more often than not they're cause for a lot worse.

Sorry if I sound like a stick in the mud :/ Here's something to make up: more Rush (and the words)

@silverine: Thanks so much. :) And I think your comments are so worth reading. :) And I echo your prayers.

@alexis: Thanks so much. Yeah, ultimately it is all up to us, although honestly there are moments, when graceful acceptance is the last thing on your mind. :)

@arjun:Great suggestion! Yep, that's what we should all try to do. And usually it works. :)

@maya: yay! Nice to see you again. :) Thanks so much dear girl! And what a lovely compliment, although don't think I am that good a writer.:) But you know, I would certainly love to do that..I think I had written briefly about it too..part of my dreams.:)

@jim: Wired is right!! And yes, I agree..sometimes it is difficult. And thanks so much for that cool tube..will check it out. :) So sweet of you. :)

nicely written- Well, happened to remember one question which usual MBA interviews have. " where do u see urselves 5 years from now?" With everything in the world changing so fast , attempting to answer something like tht would be quite ridiculous..but then we all make up something for the occasion :-) As they say the only thing constant in the world is "change" ; so we've all got to equip ourselves to be always ready for new places, people amd ideas..

cheers
flaash

@amu: Thanks. :) Fire in your belly...as long as it is raging, then things I fine I guess. :)

@Flash Gordon: Welcome here by the way! I remember that too....std question and even at job interviews. Change is the only constant. Have heard it so many times, but even then totally unprepared when it happens. :)

Some love the monotony of life..some love the chaos..But just like you said the script is not in your hands...Go where the tide goes..

Loved the last lines that summed it all..

"what really makes the difference is, accepting there will be surprises, good, bad and the ugly, knowing you can handle it, and doing so gracefully, and telling yourself, whatever happens, it surely must be for the good."

Hope is what makes it worth all..good analysis!!

very true...
in fact, life is all haha hehe ONLY when u r in college... life changes once you start living :(

I know I am taking another tangent here, but when I saw this post now, this is all I cud think of.

@mathew: "Hope" a simple 4 letter word but the power of its meaning, incredible.

@maya: So sweet. :)Well, even if Discovery won't have me, I feel good in knowing that you will not switch of the TV if and when I come onscreen. :))

@geo: Man!! Did I make the always sunny Geo a bit less sunny with my thoughts? :( Hope not.

But you know you are right, life was definitely all haha hehe in college. But the good thing is I guess we can still make it mostly haha hehe depending on how we live it. :)

And you were taggged actually by me. But when I deleted my blog that post went with it. The tag was to list 8-10 things that you liked as a child (0-12 years) and 8-10 things you disliked. Hope you still take it up tho. :)Alexis, Silverine, Mindcurry have all done it..so this tag is quite a popular one too.

Hey I read somewhere (some other blog) that you were from HAC Trivandrum. Me too from there! Good to see another angelite who remembers Sr Brenda. Which year did you study there? I was there from 91-94 (left after 10th!) - Smith

@smitha: Welcome here! Always nice to see a fellow HACite. :) I do remember Sr Brenda, but I was couple of years senior to you. I too left after the 10th.

good one mam!

i feel the mystery associated with future is what which makes life interesting. uncertainty avoids being bored, i dont knw, coz, for example, if i go for a drive and i knw the places end to end, there is no uncertainty and i still dont feel bored coz i enjoy the process of driving, neverthless it is monotonous.

ever wondered why the name of my blog is unCERTAINty and there is a sentence, "the essence of life" added to it? :p

Couldn't agree with you more:-). Knowing that we are capable of laughing our way through even the not so 'haha hehe' moments in life gives us great strength.
A comment to a comment: Am not very familiar with the school but my husband's sister also attended Holy Angels Convent in TVM.

Beautiful post. As you said correctly hopefully everything in life happens for good . The moment of truth in life is making decisions. As Paulo Coelho wrote in Alchemist "Making a decision is only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision , he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision" . But somehow most of us hate the fear of unknown and hate uncertianlity and mystery . May be because it is our own life :).

@Geo: Very happy with you and my comment was first. :)

@kesi: You are absolutely right..if we can laugh our way through it then nothing like it. I am sure you must have heard a lot about HAC from you sil.:)I have only fond memories of my school.

@h&l: absolutely!

@li: Thanks so much. And thanks for sharing that thought from The Alchemist. I have never read it but one of the books on my 'To Read' list.

@abhishek: Want to..traveling at the moment on work and therefore finding it difficult to take some time to write..so sticking to commenting at the moment.

@geo: :) Trying to be...finding it hard though. So much easier to just comment. :) And when's your next post out sir?

Hi quills,
i am gonna borrow ur quote and save it somewhere so that i can read it over and again whenever life gets too exciting or uncertain or both!
On a serious note, ultimately i think its a balance, life is abt situations thrown at us and the choices we make and i strongly believe that every choice has a flip side. it can never be perfect. so choose what u can take, accept the flip side when u make the choice and enjoy the journey. a wise and wonderfully exciting lady, nearly 55, told me this christmas....richa, u need to chill a bit! stop trying to lead a perpendicular life, let it go horizontal at times but try and enjoy it all through. And i thought to myself, how true!
A very happy new year to u!
richa.
